Phase I: Predesign

(This pre-design phase is of critical importance. It is during this time that the greatest impact on cost, schedule and design can be identified and required adjustments made. This will finish 70% of the work to be completed by the building committee).

  1. Develop project goals.
    a. Present short history of the parish and develop a concept of spirituality that will integrate the entire project.
    b. Discuss short term and long term priorities in the parish
    c. Write a “mission statement” of God’s plan, that sets a direction for the future of the parish.
  2. Assess Parish attitudes toward planning
  3. Receive counsel from governing body (diocese) and other sources to develop liturgical criteria
  4. Select and organize design team
    a. Develop spiritual dimension of the community through a “Faith Profile” workshop administered by the architect to gain an understanding of the of the community .
  5. Establish communication policy
  6. Analyze existing facilities (if any) to be considered in the project.
    a. Visit church site suggested by community
  7. Develop Project program
  8. Develop Project Budget
  9. Develop project schedule
  10. Develop project financial resources and cash flow strategy
  11. Determine construction plan
